Kirsty & james’s fun Wedding in Derbyshire

What an amazing wedding this was! Ever since I got the inquiry from Kirsty and James saying that they were just loved living life on their narrowboat with their two dogs and oh also and that Kirsty loves just hanging out with her two Shetland Ponies I knew they were just going to be right up my street. We met up at their home/boat before the wedding to hang out and to get to know each other – even though it rained nearly the whole I still remember laughing my head off all afternoon and I knew there wedding was going to be brilliant – I wasn’t wrong.

Kirsty and James wrote me an amazing review below saying lots of lovely things about me – but you can only do a good job around bloody lovely human beings – so thank you for having me with me you two and for being the best – can we do it again?

Review for Hurt Arms Ambergate

I wish I could recommend that every bride to be books Melissa, but honestly I can’t, there are two main reasons why:

1. The week after your wedding will feel like a romcom worthy breakup. I’m talking snot and tears. As you come to the sinking realisation that Mel won’t be following you around making you feel like a god damn superhero everyday for the rest of your life. Pass another tub of Ben and Jerry’s cause I’m not ok. And you’ll find yourself shamelessly messaging her to see how she is and whether she still thinks of you (my restraining order is on the way).

2. We enjoyed a smallish wedding with our closest family and friends, we’re now questioning dumping them all as Mel far and away took our favourite guest prize (yes there were trophies).

Honestly if you don’t book Mel I’d question your sanity and taste. She’s frankly phenomenal, has boundless energy and will enjoy your wedding more than you. All while capturing every joyous moment. Bonus you’ll even get a video call with the cat she ‘didn’t steal’. Not all superheroes wear capes, some wear cameras and ninja trainers 😍🙌

FUN, NATURAL WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

Thinking of booking the Hurt Arms Ambergate? Have a read of my thoughts below…

The Hurt Arms is a beautiful 19th Century countryside inn, restaurant, and boutique hotel, sitting by the Amber river. It’s quaint, cosy, and stylish — a lovely mix of modern and rustic, and perfect for couples who are looking for a relaxed, low-key venue with that classic ‘great outdoors’ vibe. It’s close to the A6, which means it’s easy for you and your guests to get to, and it’s surrounded by miles and miles of stunning views across the Amber valley.

The team at the Hurt Arms have been hosting weddings for years, and they have their own dedicated venue — the beautiful Tollgate Suite — adjoining the main building. It’s got capacity for 70 guests in the day, and 120 in the evening. There’s also a scenic terrace and secret garden reserved just for you and your wedding; they’re both perfect places for your guests to enjoy some drinks from the funky on-site Tuk-Tuk bar and take in the local scenery.

The Hurts Arms offers lots of different wedding packages, and they also have their own dedicated coordinators who’ll make sure your day is everything you want it to be, right down to the smallest detail. They’ve got on-site boutique rooms for overnight stays (including a pre-bridal suite at their sister hotel, the Grade II-listed Canal Inn, which is just a few minutes away), and they’re licensed for civil ceremonies, too. The staff are experienced and all super-friendly, and most importantly of all, their food is absolutely amazing — Kirsty and James’s wedding breakfast looked amazing. They had a really yummy country style sharing board to start with – which as well as looking really scrummy – I also feel is great as it creates a really fun vibe at the table. Dinner was a proper Yorkshire, roast beef dinner with all the trimmings and for pudding – they had all the puddings including creme brûlée, carrot cake and millionaire squares. My mouth is watering just thinking out it – yummy! You won’t be disappointed.
